Cecilia: I've been scanning the correspondence re the history i/o module, requirements, etc., but have not had time to follow in detail. In the meantime, I have somewhat hastily written a netcdf i/o history interface for the tiegcm, which I've been using on the J90's, ute, and blackforest. I thought you might be interested in looking at it as one example of a netcdf implementation for a GCM. It is quite specific to the needs and user interface of this particular model, with a simple global 3d coordinate system, and not following any particular convention set. But I am happy with it for the time being because of the obvious advantages of netcdf, particularly cross-platform compatability. I will attach a few of the relevant source files to this message. I have also put a tar file of the entire source in ftp://ftp.hao.ucar.edu:122, with file name tgcm14.tar. Examples of the netcdf output files are in mss:/ROBLE/tgcm14a. --Ben
