Ray: I ran the tiegcm station processor for the Ed Sz study, plotting un,vn,ui,vi,wi (as in the timesgcm run), calculating the ion drifts from the electric potiential on the tiegcm histories TETWS1-3 (hourly). We were planning to send these plots to Ed along with the timesgcm drifts, calculated with and without efield for comparison between the two models. The neutral winds are comparable, however, the two sets of drifts are not very comparable: the tiegcm drifts (calculated from electric potential) have very little vertical variation, i.e., the contours are mostly vertical lines, whereas the timesgcm drifts (both with and without efield) show much more structure, especially below about 120-150km. After showing the codes and plots to Art we realized that the neutral winds are being used in the calculation of the timesgcm drifts, whereas in tiegcm proc the drifts are essentially ExB (approx the electron drifts?). In the tiegcm proc, no neutral winds are used in the drift calculation. For now I will send the timesgcm results to Ed Sz (with and without efield), since I have corrected the bug (BTW, the plots are quite different after fixing that bug at many of the locations other than the one I chose to test). But I will wait to here from you before I send the tiegcm results to him. Do you want an option to add unmag and vnmag to the calculation of ion drifts in the tiegcm processor? Art said he could probably help me with that if you want. --Ben
