> Dear TISO group, > I am writing to inquire your inputs regarding the computer programming and > scientific support staff that are currently needed or will be needed > in the near future in our group, and what kind of computer-related expertise > and staffing that we can share with other groups at HAO. This is one > of the items that we will be discussing at the next HAO Task Group meeting > on Thursday (Feb. 25). Your prompt response is greatly appreciated. > > Thanks, > Gang Gang: Some areas of expertise that would be desirable in programming and technical support for the TISO group at hao: 1. f77/f90 applications programming in networked workstation and super-computing environments: a) Programming support experience in the following areas is desirable: numerical modeling, visualization (vector graphics, image processing, and animation), post-processing, scientific data acquisition and processing. b) Ability to write, optimize, and maintain code on multiple platforms, operating systems, and machine architectures. c) Experience with Sun, SGI/Cray systems preferred. d) Experience with multi-processor parallel systems desirable, including shared memory, distributed shared memory, or message-passing. 2. Development and maintenance of software applications in a unix scientific research environment: a) Experience with IRIX, UNICOS, and SUN Solaris operating systems preferred. b) Shell scripting, Perl, user interfaces, source code maintenance. c) Language, compiler, and OS interfaces from the user/developer point of view. d) Additional skills in C, C++ or especially IDL are desirable. 3. Ability to interface and communicate with the atmospheric, space physics scientific community, and staff at ncar member universities: a) Exchange of data and modelling results with cooperating institutions and scientists for comparison and validation. b) Web site development, network based data exchange, documentation, new user education. c) Ability to write public educational materials or present research projects and results, e.g., at a web site. Most of these areas of expertise would also be desirable for other sections, with the possible exception of the instrumentation group. TISO experience with the large multi-user and parallel scd systems, including Cray/SGI and the ncar mss could also benefit projects in other sections. --Ben
