Barb: I have not heard back from Don, but Peter tells me that the NCAR node on the Access Grid is under construction at the ML, so I did a little research on the Access Grid. The Access Grid was designed at Argonne Nat. Lab for exploring "the use of large-scale projection based systems as the basis for building room oriented collaboration and semi-immersive visualization systems". It is designed as a "low cost environment aimed primarily at supporting conferencing applications, but it also enables semi-immersive visualization and in particular, remote visualization". As of spring 2000, there were over 20 sites up and running, and nearly 20 more sites planning deployment in the next year. NCAR is apparently one of the latter. Since I have not been able to talk w/ Don, I don't know the status of ML/FL communication or vis labs, although Peter mentioned there have been plans to use the two sites as a testbed for remote collaboration. Here is an Access Grid URL at ANL: http://www-fp.mcs.anl.gov:80/fl/accessgrid
