Maura: Attached is latest, hopefully nearly final draft. Wrt the "extra-curricular activities", Hanne feels that all employees should be able to make these kinds of contributions regardless of their salary source, i.e., we should not say an employee cannot work on EAC just because they are on soft money. She feels we should concentrate in the appraisal on what's not being accomplished, and give Craig the opportunity to voluntarilly curtail the EAC activities. Hence I have removed the last sentence in the relevant paragraph. Hanne found on the NCAR web site that 2 years is a suggested term for being on the EAC, so I might mention that to Craig in the interview. I am a bit more forceful in expressing concern about goals being "forwarded" from 2001 to 2002, see 2nd paragraph of part C. Hanne also suggested making some "deadlines", so I said "Ben and Craig will discuss how to complete goals 1, 2, and 4 no later than September of this year". Its 4 pm here now, so its about 9:30 am for you -- if you can make final changes today, I will incorporate those changes tomorrow morning and fax it to you for your signature, and then you return fax to me. I can then use that as the "original" for the other sigs. Or, if you have no changes to make, you could print this out, sign it and fax it to me. In either case, I will give it to Craig on Friday (he works from home Wed and Thurs) signed by both you and me. Hanne said it is fine to schedule the interview for next week, then after that I give it to her with Craig's sig. --Ben
