Dr. Cassandra G. Fesen June 24, 1997 W B Hanson Center for Space Sciences University of Texas at Dallas POB 830688 MS FO22 Richardson, TX 75083-0688 Dear Cassandra, I would be pleased to participate in your proposed project to NSF's POWRE program on "Modeling the Upper Atmosphere: Educational Outreach". The post-model processors that I have developed to access and display the NCAR Thermospheric General Circulation Model simulations are robust and able to be modified for other purposes. I have written codes in IDL (Research Systems Inc.), and in fortran (f77 and f90). The IDL code utilizes a widget toolkit to drive a GUI. The fortran codes use NCAR graphics. Your students are welcome to read and use this source code as examples of applications software and visualization of model output. This would be a good starting point for developing similar processors at UTD and I would be happy to consult with your group (within reasonable time constraints) on how best to implement similiar codes for other purposes. For the record, I will not require any funding for my help in this project.
