John: Well, I'm back from the fire drill. I tried calling you but no answer, so am sending this FYI. The first thing we need to do is set up your scd account properly. A few weeks ago I requested an scd account for you, so it is ready and waiting. I will give you the password on the phone; the first time you log in it will request a new password. Then I will help you set up .rhosts files so you can rcp between scd and other internet machines, e.g., hao machines. It would be helpful if you could be sitting at a unix machine (maybe logged into your hao accout) while we're on the phone. Next I can give you codes to start working with. As I mentioned yesterday, there are post-model processors that run on the crays, and separate post-model codes that use IDL on unix machines. We can talk about the differences, but you will probably want the use the former, at least to start. The latest of these, which I've been working on this summer, includes your CO2 15u, and NO 53u emissions, as well as Sam's OH vibrational states, all calculated from time-gcm history fields. There are also "concurrent-model" processors, that execute the model for a single time step, saving and then plotting fields calculated in the model but not saved on the histories (and therefore not available to the standard post-model processors). I have located the code I used last year to interpolate time-gcm along the shuttle orbit trac for comparison with the ephemeral data you and Bruce Sullivan (?) sent. This is a more specialized code that runs on the crays. ONce you're comfortable with the scd machines and the post- model processors, you can use this code to obtain ascii data files like the ones I sent you last year. I guess these are in turn used in the sharc code (?). So please call, and we can discuss this further. --Ben ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Ben Foster High Altitude Observatory (HAO) foster@ncar.ucar.edu phone: 303-497-1595 fax: 303-497-1589 Nat.
