Peter: Ray came back from LA all excited about using linux on his son's Mac, and wants to put it on his Mac here at home. Recall he has ATT cable modem at home. I asked Herb Poppe and sent mail to linuxnerds@atd. I'll attach the responses. Basically, we can choose to either install an X server that runs on MacOS (there are free ones), or get him an auxillary disk and put yellowdog linux on it. Obviously, the former would be easiest, and I *think* it would serve his needs, i.e., xterm, idt, etc. I don't think this is a $$ problem at all, more a matter of finding someone, maybe a consultant from outside ncar, who could help him set this up... Ray already has linux on his ibm laptop, but I don't think he likes to use it at home -- small keyboard and monitor, and his ATT cable does not hook up to the labtop. --Ben
