*STUDENT ASSISTANT II - #2438* PLEASE NOTE: This is a new one-year, term position. Applications for this position will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. on September 27, 1996. NCAR - High Altitude Observatory (HAO) Nonexempt Range: 6404 Starting Salary: $8.50/hour HOURS: Flexible hours up to 20 hours per week during school, full-time during breaks. DUTIES INCLUDE: Use existing software to compare output of Thermospheric General Circulation Model simulations with similar runs of empirical models and observations. Uses post-model processors to plot data and executes code to arrive at similar plots. Assists in the development and modification of post-model processors, visualization codes, and related diagnostic software. Assists collaborating scientists and other model users in obtaining and viewing model results, using post-model processors, and maintaining model run scripts and code modifications. Further develop and maintain user documentation for models and processors, including www site development, code documentation and user installation information. REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE: -- Completion of college level coursework in computer science -- Skill in using UNIX operating system -- Skill in FORTRAN -- Skill in shell scripting, and use of UNIX editors (e.g., vi, re, or emacs) -- Strong written and oral communication skills -- Ability to work up to 20 hours/week during periods school is in session, and full-time during breaks -- Must be enrolled for credit in an accredited secondary or post-secondary school, college or university; or in a trade school which has received a Certificate of Approval from the Colorado State Board for Community Colleges and Occupational Education DESIRED (but not required): -- Knowledge of IDL and Perl programming CONTACT: Cheryl Cristanelli nnorris@ucar.edu
