ATMOSPHERE EXPLORER UNIFIED ABSTRACT DATA -------------------------- This data set contains 15-second resolution atmospheric and ionospheric parameters from NASA's AE spacecraft. AE-C took data from December 1973 through December 1978. The orbit was elliptical for the first year with a closest perigee of ~150 km and a farthest apogee of ~4300 km. After the first year, the orbit was circularized, and ranged from 250 to 450 km altitude. The inclination was 68.1 degrees. AE-D took data from October 1975 through January 1976. The orbit was elliptical with a closest perigee of 154 km and a farthest apogee of 3816 km. The inclination was 90.1 degrees. AE-E took data from December 1975 and June 1981. The orbit AE-E's was elliptical for the first year with a closest perigeei of 156 km and a farthest apogee of 2983 km. After the first year, the orbit was circularized, and ranged from 250 to 450 km altitude. The inclination was 19.7 degrees. The data have been consolidated into one file for each satellite, available as IDL save sets or as netCDF files. The filenames are: AE-C: aec.sav, aec.ncdf AE-D: aec.sav, aed.ncdf AE-E: aee.sav, aee.ncdf Each file contains two 2D arrays, e.g., oac and uac. The oa* arrays contain orbit data and the ua* arrays contain the abstract measurement data. Note that the ua* array data definintions are different for each satellite!
